After many failed attempts and postponements, we finally got together for a much need Grassroots Sports Club Lunch and it didn’t disappoint. Everyone’s favourite MC Jason Richardson welcomed over 200 guests to the Plaza Ballroom and got the crowd pumped up for an afternoon of sport and fundraising. Roving Richo was back in action chatting with AFL Legend Simon Madden, five-time world champion featherweight Lester Ellis and Middleweight champion Sam Soliman.

The GSC crew were feeling generous and the fundraising on the day raised an extraordinary $67’000. This included the room collectively donating $30000 to fund the Mirabel Boys Sports Mega Camps in the coming years which was a fantastic outcome.

Our guest speakers on the day were two of the AFLs most colourful characters, Adam Cooney and Kevin Bartlett and they put on a show. KB was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame as a Legend and the Richmond Hall of Fame as an Immortal. With five premierships, 5 Richmond B&Fs and a Norm Smith Medal KB had plenty to talk about.  AFL Brownlow Medallist and Bulldogs star Adam Cooney had trouble getting a word in at times but when he did it was to point out the one accolade that KB didn’t have. An absolute highlight of the day was Kevin Bartlett commentating his own 8 goals in the 1980 Grand Final. The two of them were generous, hilarious and irreverent making fun of themselves as much as each other.

This was the day out we all needed.
