With the COVID pandemic raging along and our GSC members in and out of lockdown we were unable to run any face-to-face Grassroots Sports Club events from October 2019 through to April 2021.  The need to support charities and vulnerable children was greater than ever and the GSC community rose to the occasion with multiple fundraising initiatives during this time

  • The Rock Around the World Challenge was a virtual fundraising event that was undertaken by committee members Dan, Shane and Stuart. It raised $21000 through GSC supporters’ sponsorships and donations.

  • The Grassroots Racing Show sponsored by Spicer Thoroughbreds broadcast via Zoom was a big hit with guests including Jason Richardson, Mick Sharkie, Brad Spicer and Richie Callander, Nick Maxwell and Robert Dipierdomenico. It was great fun and raised $6000.

  • The MRC Foundation Race Day in November 2020 went ahead with Grassroots members enjoying the races and an MRC Gourmet Superbox on the couch and continuing to support the cause. Together we raised over $20000 for the GSC. The race day was generously sponsored by long time GSC supporters Longboard Accounting.

  • In early 2021 major Grassroots Sponsor the MRC Foundation held their annual Blue Diamond Ball, the first face to face fundraiser held for Mirabel in over 16 months. They raised an extraordinary $178000 with many GSC members in attendance.

I total these GSC supported fundraising activities raised approximately $225’000 which was all donated to the Mirabel Foundation in order to support it throughout the pandemic and assist those most vulnerable in our community.  An amazing effort.
