We are the navy blues, we are the old dark navy blues……

The Grassroots committee have done it again pulling together a super line up for the 2019 GSC AFL lunch and it was a blues theme all the way with champions from multiple eras.

With Russell Robertson given the MC mic we started with brothers Charlie and Ed Curnow who spoke of growing up playing footy, getting drafted and playing together at the top level. If that wasn’t enough, we were also lucky to hear from Carlton legend Stephen “SOS” Silvagni about his stella career, watching his son play AFL and the challenges of working as a list manager. SOS was accompanied by a GOAT, GSC favourite, dual Brownlow Medallist, Premiership Captain and long-time GSC supporter Chris Judd.

In between his MC responsibilities Russell also managed to play a few tunes – is there nothing this man can’t do?

As always, the food was excellent, and the wine flowed and just because we hadn’t had a big enough football fix, we were joined by Titus O’Reilly.  A writer, presenter, performer and broadcaster Titus entertained us with the trials and tribulations of being an obsessive sports fan.

One of the most important aspects of the day was hearing from Mirabel carer Mary who is raising her 3 grandsons due to her daughter’s substance use. She was incredibly brave and helped us understand the immense challenges that Mirabel families face.

Another amazing event ……. and they know that they’ve been playing against the famous old dark blues.
