Jason Richardson introduced our famous racing lunch as ‘The official launch of Melbourne’s Spring Carnival’. And why not, it has become an institution? This was a cracking event with sport, fundraising and laughs. Richo was at his absolute best.

To start the day the guests were greeted by racing royalty Apache Cat. An 8-time group 1 winner that won $4.6 million in prize money Apache cat now spends his days at Living Legends and attending Grassroots events. This was a highlight for any punter who had backed the cat.

As always, the generosity of the Grassroots community ensured that we raised much needed funds for the Mirabel Foundation and to support disadvantaged children access sport.

Those who were able to successfully interpret guest speaker Craig Williams’ cryptic predictions for his Guineas Day mounts would have done well on the punt at Caulfield with Williams riding 3 winners at good odds. They don’t come much bigger than champion Jockey Craig Williams and his insights into Group 1 racing were invaluable.

Always great to have the support of Spicer thoroughbreds who head into the spring carnival with some genuine group 1 contenders including Extra Brut and Kings Will Dream both owned by GSC Members. Again, we auctioned a share in a future champion thanks to the generosity of Brad Spicer.

The day was topped off with plenty of laughs. Firstly, from our favourite Tipster Mick “The Shark” Sharkie and then long time Mirabel supporter Dave Callan.
